Q.: My mind is always so active and filled with thoughts, worries
and concerns. How can I ever achieve peace of mind?
A.: There is no such thing as peace of mind. The very nature of the
mind is to generate thoughts. Sometimes the thoughts are more
turbulent and sometimes more peaceful. The job of the mind is to
churn thoughts. Therefore, if you try to find peace on the level of
your mind you will fail. Instead, you need to become aware of the
peace that is always there. The very one who can observe or
watch the mind is always peaceful. Therefore, if you shift your attention
away from your mind to the observer or Knower of your
mind, you will be at peace.
Q: I have heard that meditation is important for health and a
balanced lifestyle. If I meditate will I develop a complacent attitude
about life and not care about things or feel for people?
A.: Meditation gives you more energy, insight and a sense of well
being, Oneness and love for all people. It is not like a drug or narcotic
that anesthetizes you to life. You will have a full range of
emotions but can free yourself from the useless waste of energy
caused by fears, anger or anxieties that hinder you from enjoying
each precious moment of life.
Q.: I have been meditating and practicing positive thinking for
five years. I feel like I got it but then I lose it. Sometimes I feel
happy and connected with my inner Self which is peaceful, but at
other times I am totally caught up again. Then I start to doubt if
what I am doing is working at all. Am I doing something wrong?
A.: What you are describing is a common experience. As you
progress you are getting clearer, but sometimes you slip back into
old thinking patterns and belief systems. This happens because
these patterns which took a long time to form take time to dissolve.
Just remind yourself of the times that you felt connected.
Even when you forget, it is a kind of remembering because you
are aware that you are not relaxed and you can change it. If you
keep doing your practice you will be able to maintain that higher
state more and more in your life and dissolve these old patterns.

Start with: Every day for a week pick a real problem and solve it, using any of the many creative problem solving techniques, or whatever your own routine is. These can be very simple or minor things, like fixing a sticky door, or finding a new way to organize your desk. This exercise isn't about mentally inventing things - unless you can make a prototype today. Just creating new ideas can be good mental exercise and entertaining too, but the idea here is to train yourself to be a problem solver, and to relate that thought process to action. This is a powerful way to boost the power of the mind.

One day, a yogi and his disciple arrived to the big city. They had no money with them, but they needed food and a place to stay. The disciple was sure that they were going to beg for their food, and sleep in the park at night. "There is a big park not far from here. We can sleep there at night", said the disciple. "In the open air?" Asked the yogi. "Yes", responded the student.
The yogi smiled and said: "No, tonight we are going to sleep in a hotel and eat there too".
The student was amazed. "How?" "Come and sit down", said the yogi.
They both sat down on the ground and the yogi said: "When you focus your mind intently on any subject, it comes to pass."
The yogi closed his eyes and started to meditate with full concentration. After about ten minutes he got up and started to walk, with his disciple following him. They walked through several streets and alleys, until they arrived to a hotel.
"Come, let's enter inside", the yogi said to his disciple.
They just set foot in the entrance, when a well-dressed man approached them.
"I am the manager of this hotel. You look like traveling swamis and I believe you have no money. Would you like to work in the kitchen, and in return I'll give you food and a place to stay?"
"Fine", responded the yogi.
The disciple was perplexed and asked the yogi: "Did you use any magic? How did you do that?"
The yogi smiled and said, "I wanted to show you how the power of thoughts works. When you think with full and strong concentration about something that you want to happen, and your mind does not resist the subject of your thought, your thought materializes."
"The secret is concentrating, visualizing, seeing details, having faith and projecting mental and emotional energy into the mental scene. These are the general prerequisites.
